Allergies and Raw Food, Episode #532

September 3rd, 2010 : Category: allergies to food

http://www.TheRawFoodWorld.com Today Angela and I discuss whether or not if allergies can be overcome on a raw food diet. Angela and I quoted Dr Norman Walker and Dr. Ann Wigmore about how toxicity in the body is the result of allergies. Although in this video I stated that toxicity will always be present in our bodies in this day and age, I do feel that if you know what you are doing, you can overcome your allergies quite easily with a clean consistent diet.

Losing weight with allergies?

August 23rd, 2010 : Category: kids with food allergies

Hi my name is Kari and I have two kids, the first one is 4 and the second 11 mos. With both of them I gained significant amounts of weight. Before I had children I was always a size 0-4, Now I am a size 20 Wide- 22 Wide. I can wear size 18 but feel it is too tight. Anyhow I have had allergies my whole life but there were never any real severe ones until this last pregnancy and now it seems like I can’t eat anything so I get depressed. My allergies have really taken a turn for the worse. Here is what I am allergic to, These are the Deathly ones: Peanuts, Eggs, Celery, Tomatoes, and I have minor reactions to: Bananas, Potatoes, onions and Strawberries. Anyhow I am so sensitive that I can’t even eat anything that has been made around eggs or peanuts or tomatoes. So this pretty eliminates eating out. I don’t eat fast food, and I can hardly have any candy, everything is made around nuts even gummy worms. Same with Eggs, and pasta. So here is another part of the problem, I have to cook 2 meals every time I cook because it is not fair that the rest of my family can’t have those foods just because I am allergic. So I usually go all out on cooking for my family so that way they will be healthy but then I just make whatever is easy and usually unhealthy for me because I am tired of cooking 2 meals, I can’t have mayo, and I can’t have salad dressings. Yet I feel like a cow and want to lose weight. I need to lose at least, 75 lbs. Most of my fat is on my belly. I have been starting to exercise about 3 times a week but have actually gained weight and feel down about it. Has anybody who has allergies like me ever successfully ate well and lost weight. Also It takes most of the money that we have to buy groceries to feed my husband and daughter and leaves hardly any for me to afford healthy stuff for me. I try to buy stuff we can all have together like broccoli, peas carrots, and stuff but my husband whines about wanting Jerky, or Chocolate, or snacks all the time. So then when I buy snacks I can’t afford the healthy stuff. If I buy healthy stuff then he complains he wants snacks and when I buy him snacks he complains that I am making him fat, but he doesn’t seem to get that We can’t afford both so I usually try to buy him snacks and healthy stuff that he likes because he doesn’t like what I can eat, and I just get whatever I can eat like mac n cheese cause its cheap and no eggs or I buy tuna. I eat mac n cheese almost 4-5 times a week. I am sick of it. What should I do, I’ve tried telling him that I want to only buy healthy stuff so we can lose weight. He is actually skinny he has only like 10 lbs. to lose, and I have been asking him since our daughter was born that I want a membership to a gym for during the winter and we have never been able to afford it and now that he has a little bit of fat he wants to go to the gym. I’ve been bagging him for years, and get nothing, he gains 10 lbs and its to the gym. He says he can’t get fat and that he has to go to the gym. So does that mean he doesn’t care if I get fat. I don’t matter? Also it is way cheaper if I pack his lunches for work, but he doesn’t like anything like sandwiches, noodle dishes, leftovers, brats, tacos, he always complains no matter what I make and is never happy. So he eats out all the time which we can’t afford. I’m sorry this was gonna be a simple question and ended up a monologue. If you have any advice or insight feel free to comment.

I can’t say for sure but maybe u are having a reaction to the pesticides. if you haven’t already tried, go organic or locally grown when purchasing food. and the elimination diet may work.

start by juice fasting (I recommend 3 days-starting on a friday) organic veggies and fruits…the juice will run through your system much faster than chewing, allowing to see results quiker. Not you won’t be starving! you will get the nutrients and calories that you need to sustain you and if you continue to juice you will notice that hunger pangs/pains will disappear although you may feel hungry.

When juicing find out what u can handle and what u can’t…maybe carrots work but not carrots and celery. so elimate the celery and add cumber (with a little apple for sweetness). If you really want to eat, have a salad (mixed greens or spinach) with a little lemon and olive oil.

"fasting" from starchy veggies may work also, avoid white potatoes, white bread, white rice, and white pastas and corn. introduce brown rice, whole grain (not wheat) pasta into your diet and so on. white potatoes can be replaced with yams until you know what is affecting your system.

After three days of juicing eat light balanced meals.I would suggest only having meat at one meal (lunch) and for that meat to be either, fish or chicken. no beef or pork and for now. And no dairy for 2 weeks and no starch for 1 week.

breakfast should consist of a fiber (oatmeal/oatbran) and fruit. no dairy!! however, after about 2 weeks slowly add dairy back in (yogurt is best) or cottage cheese in small amounts.

Snack, on fruit, Smoothies are a great choice, just make sure they are dairy free (no whey or milk powder) and be aware of how much sugar is in it. After 2 weeks have cottage cheese, yogurt, or a veggies sandwich on whole grain bread.

Dinner, veggies, and a lean meat. or veggies and a starch-rice, pasta. try to avoid eating meat and starct at the same meal.

drink plenty of water, exercise and keep a jounal or what is working and what is not.

Four weeks is a good start. your really have to put in the work to achieve the results you want. and because these four weeks are filled with healthy eating, you will find yourself feeling a little hungry after eating shortly after, it’s something you adjust to and take no guilt in eating another healthy snack. this is a detox diet so red meat, pork, most cheese, mayo and so forth are going to be a hinderance. try this for 4 weeks and see what works for you and then tweek it.

Is there anything I can do to prevent my child from having food allergies?

August 20th, 2010 : Category: food allergies

My husband has Celiac Disease, and has a secondary allergy to millet. I can’t have dairy or soy without breaking out in acne – I really do not want our child to have the same issues as we do, is there any way to prevent food allergies?

Do not feed them food such as nuts and strawberries (most of those really nice fruits, inc rasberries too), untill around age 2-3.

This is meant to reduce allergies.

Also, do not overclean your house!

If it is bacteria free, then they will have no immune system.

So if they are playing in the mud etc, don’t worry! :)

10 Steps towards Permanent Weight Loss, Improved Vitality, and Optimal Health

August 19th, 2010 : Category: Wheat, egg, peanut, milk

Weight loss, in the context of medicine, health or physical fitness, is a reduction of the total body mass, due to a mean loss of fluid, body fat or adipose tissue and/or lean mass, namely bone mineral deposits, muscle, tendon and other connective tissue. It can occur unintentionally due to an underlying disease or can arise from a conscious effort to improve an actual or perceived overweight or obese state. A crash diet refers to willful nutritional restriction (except water) for more than 12 hours. The desired result is to have the body burn fat for energy with the goal of losing a significant amount of weight in a short time. There is a possibility of excessive muscle loss, depending on the approach used. Your Body Mass Index is a measure of weight that takes height into account. Higher BMIs are often associated with increased risk of type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and heart disease.

You can maximize fat loss by incorporating the following into your lifestyle:
1) Use a Quality Fat Loss Supplement – To help reverse the cycle of fat gain, hundreds of phytonutrients in Yogic Slim act at the molecular level to raise metabolic rate, increase energy, prevent muscle loss, and stabilize hormones and insulin levels thus regulating appetite.
2) Weight Training – More muscle mass means a higher resting metabolic rate and more calories burned. Weight training 3 to 4 days per week (less than 1 hour per session with 30 to 60 second rest periods in between sets) will foster high levels of muscle building (anabolic) hormones and minimize muscle wasting (catabolic) hormones. Work each body part once a week (chest and back on day 1, legs on day 3, shoulders and arms on day 5).

3) Aerobics – 40 to 60 minutes of aerobics (jogging, fast walking, swimming, cycling) on alternating days from weight training will help to burn fat and calories, increase physical endurance, strengthen heart and lungs, help control blood lipid levels and blood pressure, increase insulin sensitivity, and enhance energy and ability to cope with stress. Since aerobics on an empty stomach rely on fat for energy, morning time is ideal for aerobics. The level of intensity should be within your target heart range. This means 60% to 85% of your maximum heart rate (you feel the workout is somewhat hard where you feel tired but can continue for the entire 40 to 60 minute period).

4) Carbohydrates – consume low to moderate GI (Glycemic Index) carbohydrates at all times. All low GI diets are based on the same principle of balancing blood sugar. The foods which are restricted on low GI diets are those which cause your blood sugar and insulin levels to rise fast and high. This results in more food being converted to fat. Some foods commonly believed to be healthy actually have a high GI index: dried dates, watermelon, banana, raisins, brown rice pasta, white rice, cornmeal, couscous, instant rice, white bread, wholemeal bread, dark rye, and popular cereals (Raisin Bran, Special K, Grape Nuts, Cornflakes, Rice Krispies, Cheerios, Puffed Wheat).

5) Protein – consume lean, complete protein regularly with meals to raise your metabolic and anabolic hormones and prevent lean tissue loss. Good protein sources are skinless chicken, salmon, tuna, sardines, low fat cottage cheese, egg whites, and turkey breast. Avoid luncheon meats, whole milk, ground beef, cheese, bacon, pork chops, and yogurt.

6) Reduce Saturated Fats and Replace with Polyunsaturated Fats (PUFAs) – Limit butter, red meat, cheese, mayonnaise, macadamia nuts, peanut butter, and sunflower seeds. Avoid margarine, foods with “partially hydrogenated” on labeling, processed vegetable oils, and fried foods. Regularly consume flax oil, non-processed vegetable oils, salmon, olive oil, hazelnuts, peanut oil, hemp, avocado, almonds, and fish oil.
7) Regularly Drink Water – Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water per day to avoid dehydration and help liberate fat stores to be burned as energy.

8) Multivitamins – A good quality multivitamin / mineral supplement is always advisable for maximizing metabolism, fat loss, and health.

9) Increase Fiber Intake – Fibrous vegetables like Broccoli, Cauliflower, Peppers, and Carrots, and other raw vegetables and brown rice and whole grains increase transit time of food, improve digestion, and enhance weight loss. They also add bulk to the diet which reduces appetite.

10) Eat 5 to 6 Small Meals Daily – Spreading food intake improves nutrient absorption, minimizes blood sugar fluctuations, and decreases fat-storing hormones and enzymes.
