My grandson is 4 years old and has been diagnosed with verbal dyspraxia. He ingested meconium fluid when he was born. Does anyone know is there is relation between food allergies (gluten) and speech delays caused by meconium asperation syndrome
Meconium aspiration. I’m thinking how i should present this.
It typically occurs when the fetus is STRESSED during labor, especially when the infant is past its due date, prolonged and difficult labor.
Prolonged and difficult labor decreased oxygen to the infant while still in the uterus. The infant may have a low ‘Apgar score’. Apgar score checks for Breathing effort, Heart rate, Muscle tone, Reflexes & Skin color.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apgar_score
Lack of oxygen in the uterus or from complications of meconium aspiration may lead to risks of longer-term neurological damage.
So, the outcome of speech delay depends on the degree of neurological damage.
Gluten sensitivity is more likely in Coeliac disease & wheat allergy.

My toddler is allergic to milk, butter, eggs, peanuts, wheat, amongst others
(
I’m trying to bake her some cookies. I have substitutes for everything except the butter. I’m not sure if a corn oil would be good? I’ve read about applesauce as a substitute, but afraid the cookies will be too moist to hold.
Anyone else in the same boat as me? Maybe have some info to share.
Thanks. Any help would be appreciated.

Try using butter flavored shortening like crisco, this will make the cookies a bit fluffier, but it will still tasthe sameame and unless anyone a s had those cookies they will be none the wiser.

My friend got skin allergies after drinking vodka the other night. She is not a drinker and perhaps it was her first time to drink such. She said that her whole body is itching.
Anybody knows remedies for this? thanks.
Yes, stop drinking vodka.

She has hot spots and hair loss around her butt area and on her tail. She scratches excessively. We are treating her hot spots and I am trying to find a food that is suitable to feed her to get rid of the food allergies.
I know Wellness is a good food, but are there other options out there (without a RX for the food) that will be just as good?
I use California Natural for my dog with food allergies-it has the least amount of ingredients of any dry food on the market (meaning less to be allergic to) and it’s made by a very responsible company and of good quality. A few others you may want to consider are Natural Balance Limited Ingredient and Wellness Simple Food Solutions. Taste of the Wild, Pinnacle, and Evangers are a few others that are good for some dogs with allergy (depending on what the allergy is to), but California Natural would be my first choice.

My 9 month old boy is allergic to milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts and bananas.
He is up to date on his polio, hib, and DTap.
However, I have not allowed him to have the Hep B, rotavirus, or Prevnar.
I don’t see the point of him having the Hep B. The "newness" of the Rotavirus scares me. The Prenvar fact sheet says if your child has severe allergies to ask your doctor. However, I’m on the 4th pediatrician and they blow me off when I ask them about why kids with severe allergies can’t have the Prevnar, so I keep refusing it and they keep getting mad at me.
The most recent pediatrician told me that since my son has severe allergies, if he did catch a disease, it would be harder for him to fight it, and that is why he needs vaccines more than other children. Is this crap or true?
To me, my son’s immune system is screwed up. It seems overloaded and adding more things might push him over the edge. (He had these allergies before he got his shots in case anyone wanted to know..I agonized over which ones to give him). He’s been ok with no reactions so far.
I’ve also been told that the MMR can now safely be given to kids with egg allergies. I know this is going to be a battle with our doctors when the time comes. Are there individual shots that don’t contain egg that he could be given? There has been a measles outbreak here in the area I live..12 people. All were unvaccinated, so I would really like my son to be vaccinated agains the measles.
Any thoughts? Are kids with food allergies more vulnerable to adverse reactions?? I agonize over this constantly!
Your concerns are validated here… Have you considered the possibility that multiple injections may have contributed or exacerbated his allergies? Several independent studies have drawn coorelations between vaccinations and increased autoimmune/immunodeficient issues. This is the case with our child. She was immunologically damaged by multiple pediatric vaccines (0-6 mos). We stopped all vaccines and are still trying to bring her little body back into balance. Our second child is 2, no vax, ever, and is rediculously healthy, never even needed an antibiotic. Somehow we were all lead to believe that our tiny babies with their tiny immune systems need all these injections to be healthy. We are personally finding the exact opposite is true.
Good for you, declining the Hep B vax as babies are not even in the risk category for this. I also agree that the Rotavirus vax is risky. It caused infant deaths and was subsequently reformulated and re-released. Rotavirus is an intestinal virus that runs it’s course in a week or two. If dehydration occurs, this can be addressed easily by IV fluid supplementation. The Prevnar is one that I am not familiar with, but you can read more about the specifics at http://www.whale.to/v/prevnar2.html along with other informative sites listed below. I have found that doing my own internet searches are very helpful (Google ‘Prevnar and childhood food allergies’ or the like).
Measles… this is a personal decision you will have to research further, but docs used to recommend that parents have measles parties just like they would recommend chicken pox parties, to expose a child while young and build lifelong immunity. Vaccines only offer partial and temporary protection and as such, especially with the new Varicella vax, these illnesses are appearing in adult populations where they are much more dangerous.
These decisions are not easy, especially now that there may be an underlying immune system issue. As parents, we all do the best we can to reduce the risks for our children. In our case, we found that there is much greater risk of damage or injury related to vaccination, than from any of the diseases that they are supposed to prevent.
One more thing that may help you determine a course for your baby boy. CDC lists available vaccines along with ingredients at http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/pinkbook/downloads/appendices/B/excipient-table-2.pdf
Chick embryo is listed in several vaccines, but their little bodies change and develop so quickly and allergies and sensitivities may also change over time. Our daughter has grown into and out of several different allergies and sensitivities in her 5 years of life. I was not a praying person before, but I sure am now. As far as the Ped, an informed partnership is most effective. We already know they will push vaccines, so getting fair and unbiased answers to your questions from this source is unlikely. I am very matter-of-fact with them. These are not emotionally-based decisions, but having a direction before the appointment may help. God bless.

I just found out I have major food sensitivity to eggs, all dairy, vanilla, wheat and gluten. I am wondering if anyone else with food allergies knows of good websites with recipes (especially since the holidays are coming up) and maybe some favorite brands and products that I can look for at the grocery store? Thanks!
Here are some brands:
Glutino: has a lot of good wheat/gluten and some egg free products. Their pasta is good (made with brown rice). They also have cookies, granola bars and things, not sure if all are egg, vanilla, and dairy free. You’d have to check.
Here’s their website: http://www.glutino.com/
Vans brand has good waffles, almost taste as good as the real thing if not better. They’re wheat/gluten, and egg free. You’d have to double check about the vanilla and diary though.
Kinnickik (spelling?) foods has some foods as well, I haven’t tried too much of their products though.
Pamela’s has some baking mixes.
Enjoy Life has a line of foods, I like their snickerdoodle cookies. They’re products are made with no tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, gluten, eggs, casein soy or fish or shellfish. I’m not sure if they contain vanilla but you can check. They have their products and ingredients online.
Here is their website: http://www.enjoylifefoods.com/
Bette Hagman has written several books about wheat/gluten free living and recipes. She’s pretty awesome and has some good recipes, and you can use egg replacer in place of eggs. She also has a lot of good advice. She’s the one who really got me started cooking and baking gluten free.
I have her book, "The Gluten-Free Gourmet Cooks Fast and Healthy"
You can use some of her advice to recreate some of your old classics. For example, I used her advice about Gluten free flours and xanthum gum and made my Memere’s banana bread.
You can order some of the foods listed above from the websites, Amazon has a pretty good selection, and some grocery stores supply some. Also, organic markets like Whole Foods and Trader Joes will sell them, including the special flours and xanthum gum.
I hope that helps! Cooking and baking may take some getting used to but with some research, experimenting, and practice, it ends up coming out good ( :
Good luck!

I just found out I am allergic to a lot of foods like wheat, soy, milk, egg whites, corn, shellfish/codfish,peanuts, and walnuts. Some of the foods aren’t as severe so I can eat it in moderation, but others are so severe I have to totally avoid it. And what would you consider a moderate amt.? Just enough that it wouldn’t affect me? Thanks for the help!!
I use two different websites
http://www.cookingallergyfree.com
You can set up your own profile and it will let you know what recipes are okay for you and which one aren’t.
http://www.recipezarr.com
It’s a massive recipe database. What’s good about it is you can search for recipes by catagory and ingredient, and you can do that by either including certain things or excluding certain things. For example, you can look for cookies and the filter by ingredient and exclude dairy, eggs, corn, nuts and more.
I’m also allergic to corn and nuts, and several other things so I feel your pain!
When you shop look for organic ingredients. Organic foods tend to have better disclosure of ingredients so you can feel more confident that they’re safe for you to eat.

My new contacts are irritating and itchy due to allergies. I take Allegra and use Alaway drops, but they still itch. Anyone have any tips or tricks?
Do you have soft or hard contacts? That usually makes a big difference.

Over the past few years, I’ve known a lot of dog owners who insist that their dog has food allergies, and some of them go so far as to cook their dog’s meals.
I know that many brands of dog food contain not-so-desirable ingredients. But are actually ALLERGIES to these foods really that common?
Food allergies are very common in dogs. Some breeds are more prone to others and some never get allergies.
The food you buy from the grocery store, farm supply, even your vet contain nothing but fillers and ingrediants that are not good for your dog like diseased livestock, road kill, euthanized dogs and cats, chicken feathers and beaks…..These ingrediants are by no means good for your dog and can cause cancer, allergies, even other health factors. Corn is a big contributing factor in allergies also.which any of the commercialized over rated over advertised foods are full of junk.
Science diet is recommended by the vet……………
Science diet is a crappy junk food………………………
The reason the vets do recommend this food is they get a 40 percent profit on what they sell, they do not promote it because of the nutritional factor, it is for the profit. They are not PET NUTRITIONISTS they are PET DOCTORS>>>>>>>>>
Good dog foods are the all natural kind. I prefer the raw diet, but there are good dog foods on the market which a few of them are canidae, wellness, solid gold, california natural and innova.
I believe pets are like people, if people eat nothing but junk food that is unhealthy………..
If your dog eats junk food that is unhealthy…………….
So many people are fooled by the advertisements of a good quality dog food. If it is over advertised it is to sell you and make you believe it is a good diet to feed your dog, when in all truth feeding the junk in the food is not good for your dog and it can cause many health factors………….. ALLERGIES is one of the biggest……………….

I’ve heard of tests for food allergies, blood tests, and muscle tests on kids with autism. What kind of tests are there? Where can I get these tests? How can I insist on these tests for my son without offending/ alienating his current doctors?
High April. You may need to find a doctor that specializes in ‘Environmental Medicine’ of ‘Functional Medicine’ to help you with these issues. Some medical doctors, most Naturopathic Physicians, and some Chiropractors have this type of training.
The American Academy of Environmental Medicine website (aaem.com) lists physicians that are board certified in this field.
The Institute of Functional Medicine is another source of properly trained doctors. Their website also lists available doctors (functionalmedicine.org).
You and your son are facing a very challenging issue. You will definitely need to be a strong, outspoken advocate for his needs. The mainstream medical system may resist your efforts, so be strong and courageous and follow your heart’s intuitions.
Best wishes and good luck.
